Hargeisa(ANN)Somaliland Government transfers to Mandhera Prison One Of the famous Somali traditional leaders Boqor Osman Aw Mohamoud also known as Buur Madow , after regional Court Charged sentenced to one year in prison Sunday. A court not found the case, butcharges other article 268 out of the case. With defendant’s lawyers denouncing the decision.
“My client was acquitted of two other charges but was convicted on another charge which was refuted by the defense,” said Barkhad Jama Aare after the decision by Osman Ibrahim Adan the Maroodi Jeh regional Judge.
Mr. Aare was disappointed by the one year sentence by Judge Adan who also refused Boqor Bur Madow the option of fines to reduce jail time. the government today transfer to onther prison very far away Somaliland capital Hargeisa.
Boqor Osman Aw-Mahmoud, popularly known as Buurmadow, was accused of defamation against the country’s political leaders, even though his lawyers argued the court had no evidence against Buurmadow is well known for being vocal against the government and heavily criticizing them for corruption and security abuse matters
The charges in the case filed against Buurmadow are based on the Somali Penal Code no. 215 and no. 212, which have been condemned and criticized, both locally and internationally, but the Court Charges and sentenced according to article 268 which states that defamation of political leaders while in Somaliland is an offence.
Boqor Buur Madow had been in jail for 4 months after Somaliland authorities accused the clan elder of defaming political leaders, he was arrested after arriving in Hargeisa airport in March.
