New Hampshire (Araweelo News Network)A white police commissioner in the US state of New Hampshire says he will not apologize for calling the first African-American president of the United States the N-word

According to the Associated Press, Wolfeboro Police Commissioner Robert Copeland has acknowledged in an email to his fellow police commissioners that he used the racial slur in describing Obama.

The email was in response to town resident Jane O’Toole who wrote to the town manager about the police commissioner, alleging Copeland said the slur at a restaurant in March.

“I believe I did use the ‘N’ word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse,” the police commissioner wrote in the email to his fellow police commissioners, part of which he forwarded to O’Toole. “For this, I do not apologize — he meets and exceeds my criteria for such.”

New Hampshire is 94 percent white and 1 percent black and only 20 African-American people live in Wolfeboro, which is a town of 6,300 residents.

Copeland is one of three members of the police commission in Wolfeboro that hires, fires, and disciplines police officers and sets their salaries. None of the full-time officers of Wolfeboro’s police department is African-American or a member of another minority.

More than 100 people packed into a meeting room at the Wolfeboro Public Library on Thursday and called for the commissioner’s resignation.

However, town manager David Owen said he has no authority to remove Copeland.

According to UPI, Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee who lost the presidential election to Obama, is one of the best-known summer residents of Wolfeboro.
